OUR FOUNDER

Millibeth Currie

Millibeth Currie created Women in Charge: Engineering Women's Lives to ensure students designed the program to encourage female students to increase their knowledge of and interest in science and math careers.  She saw the need to create a program that empowered and showed students ways to remove the fear and mystery from STEM fields so students are more likely to pursue them! Recognizing the importance of making learning relevant and engaging for students, she has worked to develop and foster numerous partnerships with industry professionals, academic  institutions, and community organizations to enhance STEM teaching and learning.  She has provided her students invaluable opportunities to engage with STEM professionals and explore potential  career paths through these initiatives.  Currie is a National Award Winning Middle School educator with substantial gender equity experience. Focus on gifted and talented education curriculum development and STEM education for all has always been her priority. She loves finding ways to show students their actions lead to new opportunities and to convince them they can engineer the life they dream of having!

Janette Baker

Janette Baker has been teaching at Moultrie Middle School and helping with Women in Charge since 2012. She embraces a "yes, I can" outlook and encourages her students to take risks and try new things. Her favorite thing about Women in Charge is observing the many changes students experience during their time in the program. Throughout their time in Women in Charge, students often become more confident and are less fearful of making mistakes. When not spending time teaching and helping with Women in Charge, Janette enjoys spending time with her husband and two young kids, reading, riding bikes, and going to the beach.
